If you are a new parent then you will know the wonder of watching the first steps that your baby takes, or of hearing the first words that he speaks. But remember, babyhood is fleeting. Years later when you have forgotten the little details that made parenthood special for you, the baby book that you created will bring back the memories. It can also be a great gift for your child that will strengthen the bond between you and your child. How to put together your baby book:
- Always have a camera handy. Take it with you wherever you go. Your baby will never give you a warning before doing something worth capturing on film. That’s where a digital camera comes handy. Take shots of all memorable moments such as the first time your newborn meets the family pet or the first time he tastes something bitter.
- Be ready to select the best photos to print. You may be tempted to print everything. Everything that your baby does will seem unique. But select the ones that must be unquestionable preserved because they tell a story. It will make more sense to preserve a few photographs that will remind you of special occasions, rather than an album full of meaningless photos.
- You need an album to stick the photos in. Arrange the photos by date. Add captions to them. If you can, write down any interesting story that is associated with the photo next to it. When you and your child read it years later, the album will take you right back to the years that have gone by.
- You don’t have to restrict your baby book to being a photo album. You can preserve any kind of physical memorabilia that is flat and can be stored. These can include your baby’s first tooth, pages that he colors or wallpaper swatches he paints, crafts that he makes, souvenirs of vacations with your baby, hair and nail clippings and almost any other item that has a memory attached to it.
After you have put together your newborn’s baby books, you can preserve it and look at it from time to time. Then you can gift it to your grown-up child on a special occasion. As you look at the album together, laugh together and relive the memories, the special bond between you and your child will become stronger.
