Scrapbook Stickers by Ken Glauser
Judging by the number of websites and brick and mortar stores dedicated to scrapbooking, this hobby is now a trend. The activity spreading out and expanding its horizons is obviously pointing to its growing popularity. Scrapbooking preserves important memorabilia using printed media located in photo albums and beautifully decorated accounts of important events. Without the decoration and presentation, both extremely important to scrapbooking, it is just a journal or notebook. A journal or notebook is an account of events, while a scrapbook is the same thing with visual impact.
In ancient Greece scrapbooking was first practiced, so it isn’t a new creation. It has been around for centuries. Part of scrapbooking is the goal of giving the reader a fun and attractive read. When your scrapbook is visually attractive the reader will stick with it longer and enjoy it better than just a plain scrapbook or journal.
The notebooks that preserved the ancient Grecian memories were known as hyponemata. It expressed their thoughts, their ideas and their feelings. The event that pulled scrapbooking out of the domain of the elite was the invention of printing. Suddenly the different parts of production were available for the average person. Through the years many famous people are recorded as scrapbookers. People like Thomas Jefferson and Mark Twain were avid scrapbookers.
I can’t overemphasize the importance of decoration material in a scrapbook. It is such an integral part of the art form. Of course the details and telling the story is important but scrapbookers should put enough decoration to bring out the story without obliterating it. It’s a narrow beam to walk on. The edge between enough and too much is thin but if you negotiate it correctly, it can be a beautiful thing. Every page should have adequate, relevant decorations. A scrapbook without decoration is like a lake with no water.
It is generally thought that the correct decoration is at least as important to the scrapbook as the story that is told. Users can use things like sequins, braids, templates and stamps. Other choices include rub-ons, eyelets, cut-outs, craft punches and stencils. Scrapbook stickers are also an item that is used to decorate scrapbooks.
I left scrapbook stickers to the last because it is the most used decoration in scrapbooks. The choice and ease of use lends itself very well to scrapbook decorations. Stickers can express a world of emotions. There are many hundreds of pictures available. Application is as easy as just sticking them on the page. They are frugal forms of decorations and can be accessed by anyone.
For most scrapbooking companies, there would be a line in their income statement for stickers. They are that important in the art form. Stickers can represent many emotions such as love and hatred. Along with emotional representations in stickers, there are lots of other groups that can be supported. Groups like seasons, festivals, sports and day-to-day life are other forms of stickers. Open any scrapbook and you are likely to find stickers that are easily available and affordable.
Stickers for graduation, alphabet stickers, children stickers, birthdays, dancing, family, flowers, inspirational, party and a myriad of subjects can be found. Doing a scrapbook about music? Yep there are music stickers. Frequent uses of flag stickers or patriotic stickers are common. Think of a subject and it is very likely that there are scrapbook stickers out there to support it.
As with anything else in today’s society, scrapbooking stickers are evolving with new technologies. Every day new stickers like 3D stickers, gemstone stickers and motion stickers are produced. The days of just a plain stamp-like sticker are flickering. Companies producing scrapbooking stickers strive to get new customers with new features for their stickers. One of the new type of stickers are acid-free stickers. These stickers which are also interactive and toxic free make wonderful stickers for children to use. There is no excuse now for not having scrapbook stickers. With a large variety of them and the affordability, there is no excuse for leaving them out of your next project.
