After I opened the application for the first time, I found myself just a little bit confused. But I actually created the first page layout within an hour without the need to go through the handbook. What confused me a little as I started out with this software was the menus. There is one sidebar on each side of the work area and an icon bar above it. From the first look, they appear doing the exact same. It is possible to insert pictures and elements by all 3 of these. But the left sidebar is a bit more similar to a browser, whilst the control panel sidebar at the right side allows you to customize every little thing. Like shadows, including music, make videos etc. The left sidebar is ideal for browsing your pictures.
With My Memories Suite you may basically be as creative as you desire. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of elements and nice titles. But you may also use the automated features of the program. You can pick a predesigned album, and then use the autofill function to include your photographs. Even if you use autofill you can return and edit each page till you’re happy with them. Everybody knows how irritating it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a dictionary with spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful features about the program.
Sometimes I’m a little narrow minded. I recall reading an overview of another scrapbook software in Macworld a while ago. And the person who wrote this review listed advantages and disadvantages, and one of the drawbacks was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to hear Holiday with Scorpions once we open our family vacation scrapbook.
I think the idea of adding music and video to a virtual scrapbook is an excellent idea. When you have family and friends visiting, you will not have to send your printed scrapbook around the table. Instead you can put a dvd in your player and you can all see the virtual scrapbook on your tv. Have you decided to buy the program yet?
