The last years many different kinds of applications for digital scrapping has become for sale in the shops. You can use a lots of software programs for this purpose. Many scrappers prefer applications much like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. The drawback with these programs for many is definitely the price, photoshop costs several hundred dollars, and a application as advanced as this one has a very high learning curve. This week I have written a My Memories Suite Review on my blog, and the software is both low-cost and super easy to figure out. Even if this doesn’t have all the expert functions as Photoshop, it really is great for most digital scrapbookers.
What confused me a little bit when I opened this system was the menus. There is one sidebar on each side of the workspace and an icon bar on top of it. And at the first glimpse, they appear to do exactly the same. It is possible to insert images and embellishments by all 3 of them. But the left sidebar is more like a browser, while the control panel sidebar on the right side lets you customize every little thing. Like shadows, adding music, compose videos etc. The left sidebar is ideal for searching your images.
With My Memories Suite you may basically be as artistic as you would like. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of elements and fancy titles. But you can also use the automated functions of the program. You can choose a ready made album, and then use the autofill feature to include your pictures. Even if you use autofill you can go back and edit each page till you’re happy with them. Everyone knows how annoying it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful functions about the program.
Sometimes I am a little narrow minded. I remember reading an overview of another scrapbook software in Macworld not long ago. And the one who wrote this review listed benefits and drawbacks, and one of the negatives was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to hear Holiday with Scorpions once we open our family vacation scrapbook.
Well, actually this is a awesome feature. Instead of sending your album around for everyone to admire after a family dinner, you could just put a dvd in your player and show the whole book on your big flatscreen tv for everyone to see. With My Memories suite you can do all this. You can have a dvd ordered with your printed scrapbook if you like AND you can include video snippets inside the scrapbook pages, and also music.
