The last years several types of programs for digital scrap booking is currently for sale in the shops. You should use a lot of software programs for this specific purpose. A lot of scrapbookers favor programs like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. The problem with these applications for most people is the price, photoshop sells for several hundred dollars, and a program as complex as this one has a very high learning curve. Recently I have written a My Memories Suite Review on my website, and the software is both cheap and very simple to figure out. Even if it does not have all the expert features as Photoshop, it’s great for the majority of digital scrapbookers.
After you start up the program the very first time, you’ll see the work area in the middle, between a browser sidebar on the left and a control panel on the right side. And there is also an icon tool bar at the top. You’ll be able to apply pictures, backgrounds and elements from them all. You will find some differences though. Although you can insert an element to your page from the left sidebar, it won’t let you to add shadows as well as other effects. You can do that from the right sidebar, the control panel.
With My Memories Suite you may basically be as artistic as you wish. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of embellishments and fancy titles. But you can even use the automated features of the software. You can choose a premade album, then use the autofill function to add your images. Whether or not you use autofill you can return and modify each page till you are happy with them. Everybody knows how irritating it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a dictionary with spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful features about the software.
Sometimes I am a little narrow minded. I remember reading a review of another scrapbook software in Macworld not long ago. And the person who wrote this review listed pros and cons, and one of the negatives was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to listen to Holiday with Scorpions once we open our vacation scrapbook.
The possibility to add music and video can obviously not be add to a printed book of paper, but what My Memories Suite can do for you is create a dvd that includes music tracks and video snippets. I actually think this is a really cool thing. Instead of sending your scrapbook around the table when you have a family gathering, you could put the dvd in your player and flip through a virtual book on your tv for everyone to see at the same time.
