Almost weekly I receive e-mails coming from people looking for an alternative to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, looking for something cheaper and simpler to use. My Memories Suite could be exactly what you are interested in. I have been doing a My Memories Suite Review this last week. It doesn’t have the same learning curve as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. I will admit that I was a little confused the first time I opened the software, but I made my first layout within just 1 hour, even though I never tried My Memories suite before. It really is that simple to use.
The thing that confused me a little as I started out with this program was the menus. There is one sidebar on each side of the work area and an icon bar over it. And at the first peek, they appear doing precisely the same. You can add pictures and elements from all three of them. However the left sidebar is more like a browser, whilst the control panel sidebar at the right side lets you modify everything. Like shadows, including music, make videos etc. The left sidebar is perfect for searching your pictures.
With My Memories Suite you can pretty much be as artistic as you would like. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of embellishments and fancy titles. But you can also use the automated functions of the software. You can choose a premade album, and then use the autofill feature to add your photos. Even if you use autofill you can return and change each page till you’re pleased with them. Everybody knows how annoying it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful functions about the software.
Sometimes I am a little narrow minded. I remember reading a review of another scrapbook software in Macworld not long ago. And the person who wrote this review listed advantages and disadvantages, and one of the cons was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to listen to Holiday with Scorpions once we open our vacation scrapbook.
I think the idea of adding music and video to a virtual scrapbook is an excellent idea. When you have family and friends visiting, you will not have to send your printed scrapbook around the table. Instead you can put a dvd in your player and you can all see the virtual scrapbook on your tv. Have you decided to buy the program yet?
