Scrapbooking Page Layouts by Spatch Merlin
If you have just found out about scrapbooking you are bound to be surprised at how many people now enjoy this marvellous hobby. This wonderful pass time has been around for a very long time but recently it has enjoyed a revival which has astonished many people who had not even heard of it before and who are now keen scrappers themselves.
Scrapbooking is an art form that captures memories and memorabilia in a book. These books are priceless treasures that generations will be able to look at and admire. Modern day scrapbooking has all the components at your fingertips and these include the basic albums right through to pretty embellishments that you can use to decorate your book.
This art form takes quite a bit of planning no matter what it is that you would like to store in you scrapbook and the page layouts you create are a vital part of how you communicate your ideas and feelings to other people who may look at your scrapbook. This makes it a very personal project that ends up showing the world just who you are.
Choosing your scrapbooking page layouts will determine how you present your masterpieces on every page of your book. It is a visual vocabulary of a feeling you want to achieve on the page, so you need to determine the main focal point of your layout and then create an atmosphere around this by using different materials and depths to enhance the perspective of the page. If you plan it well, the page will be beautifully balanced without detracting from the main point of focus.
Scrapbooking page layouts can be very eye-catching if you know how to go about creating them. The all important background paper will be the main ingredient then you need to decide just how you will decorate this. Some scrappers use stencils or rubber stamps to create a pretty background for their pages before they start to place either the photographs or memorabilia on them.
Once you have created your background, the next step is to decide where you would like your main focal point to be, remembering the whole time that everything you place on the page needs to tie in with each other in a cohesive manner.
Normally scrappers use either two or three photos on every page of their books and each of these has to tie in with each other to create a story. These photos can be cropped or used as they are and then placed on the background paper, ensuring that the colour of the paper matches in well with the photos. The colour scheme of every page is very important as the end result if it is well matched can be stunning.
The next thing you need to look at is how you are going to decorate the pages, this means what sort of embellishment you think would tie in well with the theme you are trying to create. Accent paper or cardstock may be used to create borders for your layouts. They can be used as mats for your photos to sit on and by making die cuts you will really be able to embellish the pages of your book. There are a variety of different types of embellishments which could add that extra personal and individual touch to the pages too.
Scrappers use word phrases to tell the story on the page as well as the visual delight that leads your eye through the tale that you are depicting on the page. You can use specially designed stickers or you may want to hand write a title to each one of the pages. This will summarize and support the theme you are creating in a very personal way. You can place a title on the page as well as a small dialogue box beside or underneath each of the photos that you place on them. Journaling the pages may take centre stage as well as your photos or it can be discreetly placed in a subtle way.
By planning well your scrapbooking page layouts you will soon see which works best for the theme you are creating. Once you have decided how you would like to present your pages the next task is to go about putting it all together and then making sure that it is all well glued down with a protective sleeve over the pages. This will ensure that your creations remain as perfect as the day you placed them in your scrapbook.
