Almost once a week I receive e-mails from persons seeking an alternative choice to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, wanting something more affordable and simpler to use. My Memories Suite may be precisely what you want. I have been doing a My Memories Suite Review the last week. It doesn’t have the similar learning curve as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Let me admit that I was a little confused the first time I opened the program, but I made the first layout in less than an hour, even if I never ever used My Memories suite before. It is actually so simple to use.
When you open up the program the very first time, you will notice the work area in the middle, between a browser sidebar on the left and a control panel on the right side. And there’s also an icon tool bar at the top. It is possible to apply pictures, backgrounds and elements from them all. You will find a few differences though. Even though you can insert an element to your page from your left sidebar, it won’t allow you to add shadows and other effects. You do that from the right sidebar, the control panel.
With My Memories Suite you can basically be as artistic as you desire. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of embellishments and fancy titles. But you can also use the automated features of the software. You can select a ready made album, and then use the autofill function to add your photos. Whether or not you use autofill you can return and edit each page until you’re satisfied with them. Everyone knows how annoying it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful features about the software.
Sometimes I’m a little narrow minded. I recall reading an overview of another scrapbook software in Macworld a while ago. And the one who wrote this review listed positives and negatives, and one of the cons was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to hear Holiday with Scorpions when we open our family vacation scrapbook.
The possibility to add music and video can obviously not be add to a printed book of paper, but what My Memories Suite can do for you is create a dvd that includes music tracks and video snippets. I actually think this is a really cool thing. Instead of sending your scrapbook around the table when you have a family gathering, you could put the dvd in your player and flip through a virtual book on your tv for everyone to see at the same time.
