Your bridesmaids do a lot for you in the months leading up to your wedding. In addition to standing up for you during the ceremony, they also spend time and money getting ready for the wedding. That’s why it’s so important to give them a gift before the wedding to let them know how much you appreciate them and their involvement in your special day.
Bridesmaid gifts are traditionally given during the rehearsal dinner, but these days, traditions are going out the window as brides and wedding parties are becoming more unique and personalized. It also used to be tradition to give the bridesmaids something that they could wear with their wedding attire, such as coordinating bracelets, but current trends are pointing toward less bride-centered gifts. Today’s bridesmaids appreciate thoughtful gifts geared toward them and not the wedding.
If you have a medium- to large-sized wedding party, getting a gift that pleases everyone can be very difficult. Instead of trying to do the impossible, why not pick a gift for each of your bridesmaids individually? Shop just like you would for a birthday present. Pick a price limit for each of your bridesmaids and then try to find a personalized gift within that range.
You can pick something related to each bridesmaid’s interests. A scrapbooking fan will appreciate a gift certificate to a local craft store, some pretty scrapbooking paper or credits to purchase digital photos. Have a movie fan in your wedding party? Get her a few of her favorite DVDs or purchase tickets so she can see the latest release at your local megaplex. An animal lover will appreciate something that she can use with her “fur baby” like a new pet toy, a book on her favorite animal or a gift certificate for a grooming salon. Friends with a beauty nut? Send her on a shopping spree at her favorite beauty boutique or pick some bath and body items in a yummy scent that she can enjoy.
In addition to individual gifts, you can also plan an event for the entire group prior to the wedding day. A spa day is a fun way to relax with your bridesmaids and treat them to something special. It’s a way to both get everyone ready for the wedding and to say thank you. Call around to local spas and see if they have bulk discounts on facials or pedicures. If you plan a spa day, make sure to let your bridesmaids know that you’ll be covering a special treatment for them all. This way if anyone chooses to get an additional spa treatment, they can book it in advance.
No matter how you choose to thank your bridesmaids, make sure that you send thank you notes after every big event leading up the wedding. Send a note after they agree to be your bridesmaids, after the dress fitting and after your shower and/or bachelorette party. Your bridesmaids are spending a lot of time and money on your special day, so you should do everything that you can to thank them for their efforts.
