Scrapbooking For Dummies: Or Make Your Scrapbook Look Good

Within many people there’s a shutterbug waiting to spring out at friends and family during special events. But after all of that camera flashing, what’s a body to do with all of the special memories that come of it? Would you throw them into a box to be forgotten until your child needs something for a school project? Why not piece them together into a beautiful book you wouldn’t mind laying out on the coffee table instead of those expired fashion magazines?

These handcrafted photo albums are called scrapbooks and they can be one of the most addictive, affordable craft projects you’ll ever come across. You can even have the kids help you out on their own special page. What better way to remember those special moments forever?

To begin your scrapbook, you’ll need paper, scissors, glue, writing utensils, and of course your photos. Just drag out that old box you have hidden in the closet. Don’t worry, I won’t tell.

Once you have everything lying in front of you, decide where you want to start your book. Is it going to begin at the start of your family or are you making a special gift for that special someone? You’ll also want to decide right now what size you want the book to be. For a basic book, you can buy a blank one from any craft store or stores like Walmart. If you want to fully customize it, you can buy an empty book from a craft store and also specialty printed papers for it.

Now then, you have your book and papers in front of you? Grab your writing utensils and give your first page a headline. Treat this as an introduction page or just dive right into the fun stuff. I’m sure everyone wants to know who made this beautiful piece of work. After you get your first page written out, add some of those scrap photos and grab some of those decorative papers and cut out frames to liven up the photos. Look good so far? Very good! A good way to do your next page and every page thereafter is to pick an event or person as a theme. Consider the way a school yearbook is put together; all of the club pages are based off of themes for their particular club usually. There are other pages that aren’t faculty or classes that are also theme based. You can use this as a guide and inspiration for your photos.

When are you finished? Well, the nice thing about scrapbooks is that you never have to have an end to them… unless you run out of room of course. Truly, scrapbooks are made to be open though. They don’t need some fancy ending to be beautiful.
