Digital Scrapbooking and the traditional Paper Scrapbooking, what is the difference and what should you choose to preserve your memories. The main difference between the two kinds of scrapping is the use of supplies. Digital scrapbooking does not deserve as much tools, scissors and glue. You basically need a computer and some kind of software to get started.
Digital scrapbooking, however, while serves the same purpose, requires less tools to make a page meaningfully decorated. Instead, computer graphics are used as a substitution to the traditional materials. Because the traditional way of scrapbooking means something hand-crafted, the ardent scrap booker usually has draws, shelves and even rooms full of material. From a variety of paper, stamps, ink, scissors and even gadgets, it makes the art quite fun and offers the opportunity to really explore one’s creativity.
All these supplies will probably cost you a small fortune. It can also mean more of a mess with all the cut paper, adhesives and inks; all this expense, mess and storage to design pages for photos. Unless you’re already a whiz at using graphic software, then graphic scrapbooking can be difficult to learn. There are so many possibilities when you choose to go digital with your scrapbooking, even if it requires some time learning. Getting set-up however is quite easy. All that is required is a computer and in some cases, internet connection.
There is no need to take up a bunch of space with equipment, and materials other than the computer which, chances are, you would have around anyway. Then, you can get free software with loads of templates already available. You can customize your photo page with a few clicks. Just like with paper scrapping, the most used size of digital scrapbook pages is 12×12 inches, and you add your pictures and embellisments as layers just as you do on a paper scrapbook layout. A digital scrapbook page can be saved on your computer, uploaded to online galleries, shared with family and friends. And, they should of course be printed.
The visual comparisons of traditional scrapbooking versus digital scrapbooking are quite obvious. The traditional version can literally be a three-dimensional look while a digital scrapbook page comes out on a smooth surface. Your digital scrapbook pages can be printed in a photobook, a gift that without a doubt will impress its recipient.
They’ll marvel at your creativity and skills. A digital scrapbook on the other hand can be sent via email or other digital media. As it relates to cost, all the supplies you need to start paper scrapping would exceed the cost of digital scrapbook software many times. In addition, don’t forget that some of the software is free or offered for free with basic features so you can pay for additional features if you want. Of course, it is your choice, choose what suits you best.
It’s a great alternative to use both methods of scrapbooking. If you have pictures on film that have already been printed, then you can use the hand-made scrapbooking technique. Most of us have converted to digital cameras long time ago, and with digital pictures it is only natural to make scrapbook pages digital as well. Whatever way you decide, what’s important is that you can preserve your memory in a fun and unique way.
