MultiMedia EBooks Join Forces With eCommerce: The New Breakthrough In Multi-Media eBook Publishing.
The eBook IS Your eCommerce Store!
Multi media Ebooks are not solely about providing a richer client experience, bigger satisfaction, and commitment. Correctly done, they are a natural fit for up-sells and cross-sells, and might be the best application yet to sell more premium products and services.
The concept of a publisher referencing other products is nothing new. Recommended publications, either by the writer or the publisher, are frequently listed at the end of most books. The issue has long been to get the reader to note and, just as importantly, to take action.
First, a little recap of the “old school” problems just hinted at.
Problem one: Readers basically have to read those inventories of other publications, buried at the end, actually beyond the end, of the book. Few bother. But for those who do, they need to write down what they’re interested in, go to their PC, Google it (or just go to Amazon and search for it there) get it, and wait for it to be shipped.
It may not appear like a big thing, but it is actually Enormous. The active person, easily distracted by dozens of more pressing issues, is likelier to say, “I’ll do that later.” Most of the time, later never comes.
Problem 2: Not only are these upsells buried at the back of the book, they’re unimaginative in what they offer. This is generally due to book publishers and authors restricted by traditional, Oldschool publishing concepts.
To paraphrase, think beyond books and CDs and audiotapes. Think about services and products the consumer would probably be interested in and then give it to him in an immediate, digital download form.
Up to date clients are really demanding. Not only do they want more of what they like, they want it now, and they do not want to jump through hoops to get it. So if you make them work, you’re going to lose the sale. Easy as that.

Enter Amazon’s Affiliate program.
As you already know, Amazon is the largest bookseller in the world (irrespective of what Barnes & Nobles announces).
Now get this.
Eighty p.c of Amazon’s cash comes from its affiliate program. What that implies is that the overwhelming majority of Amazon’s cash comes from people selling other individual’s product, and not just books! Eighty %!
Here is where it gets a tad strange for us and where Amazon’s bipolar characteristics actually shows. As an internet retailer, they’re the undisputed kings of affiliate marketing. But as a hardware / software manufacturer, i.e, the Kindle, they went the closed, exclusive, black box direction. And history will show inside 6 months — well actually the writing’s already on the wall — that this approach could have been outstandingly short-sighted.
So what does this have to do with a Multi-Media eBook becoming a store?
To begin with, it reveals how not to build an eBook reader gizmo.
Let me put my neck on the line here.
Within a year, Amazon will have a real tablet gizmo similar to the iPad. This may happen not from choice, but by patron demand for all-in-one solutions instead of stand-alone devices that need the consumer to tote around another piece of hardware.
Now the better news for writers, book publishers and just about anyone who wants to earn cash from Multi-media eBooks is…
You don’t have to create your own content to earn money. What this means is that you do not have to form all the additional products the customer would find interesting after or “during” their read of your Multi-media electronic book.
Even today, if you wished to, you could join the Amazon affiliate program … it takes about ten-minutes to sign-up … choose the products you feel your customers would like, and implant links to them in your Multi media eBook anywhere you like. And when a reader clicks one of “your” links and buys something, anything on Amazon, you get a commission!
And it does not stop with Amazon.
There are other affiliate portals out there that generate billions in commissions. My favourite is Clickbank, but there are lots of them. And I’m still not found a single one who charges even a penny to enroll.
Simply don’t don’t get carried away. Don’t change the theme of your book to fit the most important affiliate possibilities.
And listen to me, you’ll be lured once you see the types of commissions you can make on Clickbank and other affiliate portals. Stay in your area of expertise, and if you don’t have a higher value product, get in touch with someone that does.
And just like that, your book just turned into a specialty store!
For an inventory of affiliate directories, check out Affiliate Scout.
Remember, you do not have to form everything you sell online . In reality if you try, probabilities are you’ll give up out of the sheer magnitude of effort.
But if you actually have a massive inventory of books prepared to be digitised, go for it. Just be absolutely certain they’re Multi-media ready so that you can upsell your own stuff, and that way, not pay any affiliate commissions.
So for you writers and book publishers out there, greener pastures wait for you. All you have got to do is do some simple research, and jump in.
Whether the “eBook is the web-like store” concept includes your stuff, or someone else’s, or a mixture of both, is totally up to you.
Greener pastures await you!
